Dr. Hughes :: Serving Millbury-Sutton-Greater Worcester

“My back hurts – I need to see my chiropractor”, my friend Larry told me.

Millbury Chiropractor Dr. Hughes

This was in 1969 and I’d never heard the term used. But in 1977 I decided to see for myself. I woke up the morning after a camping trip that year with extreme, knife-like pain in my upper back. A local chiropractor examined me, explained what the problem was and how he was going to ‘fix it’. After a number of treatments (the Doctor called them ‘adjustments’) I felt much better, then pain-free. That was the beginning. Soon my wife, our young son and I became enthusiastic chiropractic patients.

Chiropractic Philosophy

We learned about the philosophy of chiropractic, so different from that of conventional medicine: that the body has this amazing ability to heal from within. That a chiropractor removed interferences to the process of healing and that we felt better after our adjustments, in ways both subtle and obvious. Life does have some memorable twists and turns; by the spring of 1989 I had graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. We moved to Worcester, Massachusetts in 1990 – after 20 years, we’ve become almost-native New Englanders!

A Life's Passion

I began what has become a life’s passion: a commitment to study health, wellness and the role chiropractic plays in enriching our lives in these ways and others. Several Doctors of Chiropractic were an inspiration to me. I learned how vital good nutrition and exercise were to overall health. How being curious about my patients allowed me to listen and then learn how to provide them the best possible care. I learned and adopted a ‘patient’s needs come first’ goal for all our interactions, whether in the treatment room or the business office.

My Family

As for many of you, my family provides bountiful blessings in my life. Over the nearly 38 years we’ve been together, Mardi, my wife and truest friend/business consultant (she’s an MBA-trained professor, a writer and social media marketing expert) and all-around hub of our family wheel still makes me laugh and then be amazed at her insights on many subjects. Our son Jesse and his wife Aliza moved to Israel  in 2009 (long story) so Internet camera and microphone now keep us connected to them and our two granddaughters and a grandson. Our daughter Samantha and her husband live in and love Boston; they are expecting their their own little bundle of joy next month; a red/apricot Goldendoodle puppy.

Dr. Hughes Asks some important questions of interest to Millbury residents - Chiropractor Millbury Dr. Hughes Asks...

Do chiropractors prescribe medications for the pain?
No. Chiropractic is a drug-free approach to better health. Instead, we rely on natural methods. We can show you how to use ice to control pain. When properly applied, ice can have an analgesic effect without the unwanted and sometimes dangerous effects of pain medications.
Can a chiropractor heal?
There's never been a case in which a doctor (chiropractor or otherwise) has formed scar tissue, mended a broken bone or cured a headache. Only you can do that. Turns out you're the doctor! All I do is help remove interferences to your body's healing ability. Ready to get started? Call our office today.
